MACTE Advertising Policies and Guidelines

Introduction

Achieving MACTE accreditation is a badge of honor for your Montessori teacher education program, and we encourage you to share this achievement in your advertising. A function of accreditation is to protect and inform adult learners, so it is therefore important that advertising ethically and accurately portrays a program’s MACTE accreditation status. Below are the guidelines programs (both fully accredited and in the process) are required to follow


General Advertising Policies

Reference to MACTE on program’s website must also include a link to MACTE’s website either by hyperlinking the name, or by typing out the address: macte.org

Reference to MACTE in program’s printed material (such as the Adult Learner Handbook) must also include the current address and telephone number of the MACTE office, 420 Park Street, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902.


MACTE Logo Use

In accordance with these advertising policies and guidelines, applicant and accredited Institutions/Programs are welcome to include the MACTE logo on their website and other publications,

APPLICANT Institutions/Programs, Levels, and Additional Locations


Applicant Status:

The Teacher Education Program (TEP) submits their intent for Initial Accreditation for a program, level or additional location by submitting the corresponding application and fee to the MACTE office for review. The application is reviewed for completeness and approved by the MACTE office. Once approved, MACTE will notify the program they may advertise that

(Name of institution/program) is an Applicant in Good Standing for its (level(s) (and, if applicable, name of additional location(s) or branch campus)) with the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)”

Any advertisement by the TEP as an “Applicant in Good Standing with the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education” status must contain the following disclaimer:

“Applicant in Good Standing status in no way determines the outcome of the accreditation decisions by MACTE”

The MACTE office will monitor the TEP’s writing progress to ensure a timely submission of the Self-Study and Substantive Change 8 documentation. If the Self-Study has not been submitted within the two-year time frame MACTE reserves the right to withdraw the applicant’s application.


Candidate Status:

The TEP submits their Self-Study for review by the MACTE reader. Once the MACTE reader has reviewed and approved the Self-Study or Substantive Change 8 documentation, the MACTE office will move forward with scheduling the On-Site Verification Visit. After the TEP has received approval to schedule the On-Site Verification Visit, the TEP may advertise that:

(Name of institution/program) is an Candidate in Good Standing for its (level(s) (and, if applicable, name of additional location(s) or branch campus)) with the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)”

Advertisement by the TEP as a “Candidate in Good Standing with the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education” status much contain the following disclaimer:

“Candidate in Good Standing status in no way determines the outcome of the accreditation decisions by MACTE”

Once the On-Site Verification Visit has taken place and the report and final documentation has been sent to the MACTE office, the MACTE Board of Directors, which is recognized by the USDE as the accrediting body, will schedule the accreditation deliberation of the case


ACCREDITED Institutions/Programs, Levels, and Additional Locations


If All Levels are NOT Currently Accredited:

REMINDER: Per the 2018 Guide to Accreditation, all levels and locations of a MACTE accredited program must be in the process of becoming MACTE accredited by September 2020. If applicable, please submit an application for any non-accredited level as soon as possible. The application can be downloaded from macte.org/document-library.

Institutions having a mix of accredited and non-accredited levels are entitled to use the MACTE logo and to refer to its accreditation status in published materials only with reference to its accredited Montessori teacher education course level(s). Statements must conform to the following:

“(Name of program) holds accredited status for its (accredited level[s]) Montessori teacher education course level from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE).”

If the MACTE logo is used, it may only be placed on the same page and with reference to the accredited course level(s).

If MACTE is referenced in a general manner, such as on a program’s website or front page of a brochure, then the reference must also list which levels are accredited and which ones are not accredited.


If All Levels ARE Accredited:

Institutions with all its offered levels having an initial or full accreditation status are entitled to use the MACTE logo and to refer to its accreditation status in a more general manner such as on the website’s homepage and/or the front page of a brochure, without listing the levels that are accredited.
