Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education


MACTE is the international standard setting and accrediting body for Montessori teacher education.  MACTE honors diversity and encourages collaboration among its constituents.
MACTE is recognized by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). 
Our mission is to improve the level of Montessori teacher education by:
  • Developing valid and reliable accreditation standards that contribute toward quality Montessori teacher education;
  • Evaluating compliance with these standards;
  • Recognizing institutions and programs that demonstrate compliance with the standards;
  • Serving as a resource to various stakeholder groups concerning quality issues in Montessori teacher education;
  • Serving as a unifying body in the field of Montessori teacher education

Upcoming Events


  • 2012 AMS Annual Conference - "Montessori: The Bridge to Learning for Every Child" will be the theme. The conference will be held March 15 – 18 at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, CA.

  • MACTE and IAME present a professional development day in conjunction with the AMS Annual Conference.  The professional development day will be on Wednesday March 14 in San Fransisco, CA.  Please mark your calendars to attend!
