Guide to Accredited Programs List
Age LevelsAccredited institutions and
programs are listed by state and are in alphabetical order. The
abbreviations I & T, EC, EI, EI-II, SI and SI-II stand for the age
level(s) each institution/program, which have been accredited offers:
Age Level Abbreviations
I&T: Infant and Toddler (birth through age 3)
EC: Early Childhood (ages 2 1/2 through 6)EL I or EL I-II: Elementary I (ages 6 through 9) or I-II (ages 6 through 12)SI or SI-II: Secondary I (ages 12 through 15) or I-II (ages 12 through 18)
Three levels of accreditation are listed:
- Initial Accreditation (IA)
is granted for a maximum period of four years (through the year
indicated), and may be extended to a maximum of seven years upon
submission of a satisfactory Interim Report at the end of the third year
of operation.
- Full Accreditation (FA) initial or renewed, for a maximum period of seven years (through the year indicated).
- Accreditation with Stipulations/Probation
(AS/P) Deficiencies have been identified by the
Commission, and must be corrected by the year indicated in order for the
institution's/program's Full Accreditation status to be restored.
- Distance Education (D) MACTE accredits
institutions offering certification course components via distance that
meet specified criteria. An on-site residential component is required.
Title IV CertificationFree-standing accredited institutions/programs that have been certified
through the U.S. Department of Education to offer Title IV funding
(federal grants and loans) to their students are starred and in bold
print in the directory listings. Many of the programs located within
colleges and universities also offer Title IV funding to students (these
are underlined)
Organizational Affiliation
Many accredited institutions/programs are affiliated with Montessori
societies, organizations, consortia, or groups of independents.
Affiliations are indicated next to the name of the program (with
acronyms in parentheses), and may include:

The American Montessori Society (AMS) Applicants for AMS affiliation are designated by (AMS app.)
Montessori Educational Programs International (MEPI)
Pan American Montessori Society (PAMS)
